Sheppardによる美術解剖書の一つ。体表解剖学(Surface anatomy)を美術解剖に応用した。様々なポーズを取ったモデルの素描を元にスーパーインポーズ法を用いて表層の筋や骨格を図示している。図の情報量は素描向け。体表解剖学では、骨や筋の起伏など体表観察で得られる解剖学的情報をもとに深部の構造を推測する。生体は固定遺体とは異なるため、体表解剖やスーパーインポーズは生体の観察を必要とする表現の手引きとして有効である。
